Training Program

Development of highly skilled, committed cancer communication investigators is essential to prevent cancer and to improve cancer patient outcomes. The goal of the EPIC training program is to train both physician and non-physician fellows to be rigorous independent academic investigators skilled in the use of cancer communication research approaches, methods and techniques and prepared to address important questions in cancer communication research.

The EPIC training program provides a unique opportunity for trainees to pursue and strengthen their interest and expertise in cancer communication in a rigorous, multi-disciplinary environment. The EPIC Training Core is co-directed by Dr. Sandy Schwartz, Professor of Medicine and Health Management & Economics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and the Wharton School and Dr. Joseph Cappella, Gerald R. Miller Professor of Communication at the Annenberg School for Communication.

During the training program, trainees have the opportunity to collaborate with graduate students, other trainees at the University of Penn, junior faculty and senior investigators. EPIC trainees participate in several seminar monthly seminars including the cancer communication Speaker Series, monthly research progress meetings, a cancer biology, epidemiology and control seminar series and a research career development seminar series.
