Data Meetings

EPIC Center data meetings provide an opportunity for EPIC faculty, junior investigators, and graduate students working on EPIC research to present a paper in progress to the entire research team. These meetings foster Center collaboration across projects and encourage production of project-generated presentations and publications for submission to academic conferences and peer-reviewed journals. The Data Meetings will resume again in the fall semester of 2008. The 2007-2008 Data Meetings featured the following speakers:

Speaker Series

The purpose of the annual Speaker Series is to bring nationally recognized scholars, including leaders in the Cancer Communication field, to the EPIC Center. This series serves to engage outside investigators and create new opportunities for collaboration with scholars from other universities as well as other departments within the Penn community.

Research Career Development Series

As part of the monthly CECCR Speaker Series, the EPIC CECCR hosts informal research/career development talks with visiting speakers. This series provides an opportunity for post-doctoral fellows, graduate students and young investigators to learn about the research interests and career development of visiting scholars from a variety of disciplines. The goal of these discussions is to provide useful insight into research and career development from varying perspectives.

Cancer Seminar Series

The cancer seminar series is led by Dr. Stacy Gray, post-doctoral fellow with the EPIC Center, and Dr. Sandy Schwartz, co-director of the EPIC Training Core. This series was created to provide post-doctoral fellows, students and faculty at the EPIC with some basic training in cancer biology and epidemiology. This seminar series provides those predominately trained in social science with a scientific and clinical background to both help them better frame their research questions and facilitate their multi-disciplinary interactions with clinicians, biomedical researchers and clinical investigators. The cancer seminar series covers such topics as cancer biology, cancer epidemiology, genetic risk, diagnostic and treatment modalities and overviews of some of the more common cancers.
